7-20 Shift A

From: Bill Franklin (wafrankl@lns.mit.edu)

On shift: Bill Franklin

Program: Continuation of Compton Polarimeter commissioning

Summary: The shift began with a series of laser scans to improve
the signal to background ratio for backscattering. The best
signal-to-background ratio was a little better than 1:1, but in the
energy region of interest it was significanly better. Energy spectra
were taken for the first time this running period.

Beam was then given to the chief operator for about an hour of tuning
in an attempt to improve the injection efficiency. It was only possible
to store about 40 mA during this shift and injection was slow.
Attempts to raise the peak current were unsuccessful. A series of
local orbit changes for electron were then explored to determine
impact on the backscattered flux. This program will continue on the
next overnight shift.
