Hi Pete,
   Certainly possible, I've seen worse things caused by jet-lag! It
just might be, though, that either those chapters were unchanged or
possibly even that they were never registered ("cvs add ...") at
all. Do a "cvs status ..." or "cvs diff ..." to be sure. Another
thing to try is to check out a brand new working copy in a different
directory, and see what REALLY is in cvs. (if you like emacs, try
the PCL-CVS mode. do "M-x cvs-examine", and follow the prompts.
