[BLAST_ANAWARE] MySQL access from the spuds

Hi!
Has anyone tried to access the MySQL server on blast05 from the spuds,
from a ROOT macro?

I wrote a simple example today, all it does is connects to the MySQL
server on port #... (Ernie should know I was scanning to see what port
number is used by the MySQL daemon) and then spits some numbers into one
of the tables.
I can run the macro on any .lns.mit.edu (blast05 or dblast07, for
example), but I cannot run it from the spuds if I want to use the ROOT
version everybody uses (we have a different ROOT version on the spuds -
root_v3.02/07, instead of root_v3.02/00).

I copied ROOT from blast05 to spud4 (in my account) and I can do whatever
I want with this version, however it is useless since people are using
root_v3.02/07... we cannot simply switch to /00 on the spuds since that
would create problems with the analysis libraries (libBlast.so etc.)

I do not have superuser powers on the spuds (I am not supposed to) and
Scott Garman, who is the main admin for the spuds cannot fix this without
letting people know what is going on.
He will try to get involved on Wednesday (he has been useful many times
when I had questions about the spuds).

Adrian

PS: Just to stress this out (if I confused people): the ROOT version and
libMySQL.so version on the spuds do not match. Scott will try to make them
work together, as people cannot change the ROOT version now and we will
need a working libMySQL.so on the spuds - so Scott will probably recompile
that library... BTW, I tried all the compiled libraries I could find, they
do not work! If you know of any, let me know so we can spare Scott's time.
