[BLAST_SHIFTS] 6/6/03 B Shift Summary

On shift: Bill Franklin, Ricardo Alarcon

We were running up to 60 mA of current with hydrogen flowing and the new
ABS storage cell in place. BLAST was on, as were transverse and
longitudinal holding fields. The accelerator performed fairly well. The
filling rate was slower than usual (> 30 seconds) and normalized rates in
the Beam Quality Monitors were a little bit high (> 150 Hz/mA), probably
due to vacuum not being optimal yet. Beam was consistently delivered
though.

Between 2 and 3 hours of data were taken with hydrogen flowing in ABS over
the course of the morning. Two problems slowed us down. The High Voltage
GUI continued to have problems due to attempts to integrate the ion
polarimeter. Detector voltages had to be ramped by using the FTP script
and some time was devoted to chasing down bugs. These problems were
resolved though, and the GUI should be operational for weekend running.

The second problem was that the BLAST Power Supply tripped off several
times. It isn't clear at this point what is causing the supply to trip,
but it was determined at the daily meeting that if it happens again,
members of the Controls and Mechanical Groups should be called in and the
supply should be brought up locally.

There were also more problems with running the polarimeter data
acquisition on blast09 and we are back to running on blast03 in
stand-alone mode. The polarimeter has been set up for weekend running
and runs should be started synchronously with BLAST runs.

During the afternoon, the Hall was opened for the MIT Alumni Tour.
Opertors are closing it up now.

The plan is to take more polarized hydrogen data over the weekend. The
data from this morning haven't been analyzed for an asymmetry yet.
