genya spent the day/evening/night/late night/early morning tuning up the ABS. around 3:00, CCR took over re-instituting last year's beam tune/setup. despite the fact that the old 2004 beam tune/setup is now being used, there were still problems. now, around 9:00, it looks like the beam is almost operational.

the ABS's cell heater is turned to "monitor" operation mode b/c the cell gets too hot in "control" mode if the beam is running continuously. if beam running stops for some reason for an extended period of time, the mode should be switched back to "control" (see the Cell - LTC11 Temperature Controller" gui on the right monitor in the second second window of the ABS computer).

also, v14 and v15 switched closed once during beam running. if this happens, they should both be opened back up. however, the magnetic field in their region is too strong to allow them to close with the holding field up. thus, you've got to call CCR and tell them to turn off the holding field. you then have to open the valves (see the "abscontrols.adl" gui on the left monitor in the first window of the ABS computer). once done, CCR will have to raise the holding field and cycle everything. the whole procedure takes about 20 minutes.

the wire chamber covers were removed around 8:00. it was noticed that the mylar covering the entrance plane of the left sector was not bulged outwards like it should be. this might imply a gas problem of some sort. however, both sectors are holding full voltage and the gas bubblers are all working. so until it becomes a problem (which it isn't now), it shall be ignored.
