Okay, lets try this again.
I have redone the calculations after Vitaly pointed out that our
measurements are not correlated (I know. Duh?). It is certainly much
messier but with some algebraic machinations I can get to the same
result more or less.
The conclusion is that you should use the full form of all equations
though and the approximations are only good for getting a feeling for
how the trends go. It does illustrate where the approximations come in.
Anyway the corrected note is attached. Let me know if there is
anything further wrong.
